As I mentioned during one Wednesday Service, it is important that we distinguish between our testimony and thanksgiving. This helps do the right thing for the greater benefit of the congregation during our services.
What is a Testimony
- A testimony is a report of an unusual happening in our life that we attribute to God.
- A testimony focuses on the wondrous and miraculous works of God.
- A testimony is intended to exalt God through His divine attributes.
- A testimony can also contain a thanksgiving to God since most of our testimonies are personal experiences.
What is a Thanksgiving
- A thanksgiving is one’s way expressing gratitude towards God in our daily living.
- A thanksgiving is a way of remembering and honoring God in the many landmarks of our life.
- A thanksgiving is mostly all about our anniversaries, birthdays, accomplishments, new things, etc.
Some Guidelines when Giving a Testimony
- Make sure it is something that is not ordinary or usual part of life.
- Make sure it is a work of God.
- Avoid confessing sins committed to another person (husband/wife, child, brother or sister, etc.)
- Avoid confessing our personal failures and shortcomings.
- Keep it short.
- Focus on exalting God and not on expressing your feelings.
